They both just fell asleep.

I'm finally feeling better; whatever the problem was, my system purged itself over 24 hours (but was was a pretty awful night). I have a splitting sinus headache, but I'll take some Tylenol soon.

The computer is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. But Teri will be working for part of the day, so I don't know if we'll actually be able to receive it. I'm going to have to try to figure out how to best transfer data from the old system to the new one; any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Have you ever heard of the Valsava manoeuvre? It really helps me with my sinuses.

I'd never heard of it, but it turns out that I've done it a lot. It helps a little.

If your new motherboard has the connections, it should be easy to just pull your old drive and put it in the new system as a slave/secondary drive D,E,F etc.

And simply move the files across from the old drive to the new drive.

But, if it does, and they're being used, say as your DVDrom and DVDRW drives, those can be temporarily disconnected, the old drive put in their place for the transfer, then put the DVD data cable back when done.

I've done this a lot!

But I'm afraid to open the box and start messing around with the computer! Yes, I know that it's easy, but this computer represents more money than I am likely to be able to spend on myself again for YEARS. If it breaks, I cannot afford a new one!

And I really am incredibly unlucky or unskilled when it comes to hardware. Maybe my friends will chime in on this. They know about my curse.

I won't compare opening up my new system and slaving my old drives to doing open-heart surgery on Sebastian. But it says something that the comparison came into my mind, doesn't it?

I'm hoping to be able to connect the two systems via a USB plug. If that's not possible, I'll be stuck with the time-consuming process of using my flash drive to transfer the files...which will be like emptying a barrel using an teacup. :(

Or... you can get a bare USB external drive caddy, put your old drive in there, and transfer the files that way.

This way you also get a larger USB drive for backup as an extra little gift.
