Hi-YA! (The Karate Kid)

Sebastian has wanted to learn karate for years. I tended to resist that idea. But I eventually gave in, and she signed him up for a free lesson at a downtown dojo. We went on Saturday.

It was a "little dragons" class, and he was the biggest boy there. Some of the kids were only three years old, although they were big for their age. There was another boy there, another redhead, who was Sebastian's age. They became friends instantly.

It wasn't...well, there was some practice punching and kicking and shouting "hi-ya!". The kids would have been disappointed without it. But mostly it was having them practice what to do if a stranger tried to grab them, running back and forth, and standing in line. Sebastian loved it.

Given his age and maturity, the instructor thought he might be better placed in the next older group; they start at age seven. He's going to try one of those classes next week. After that...we'll see.
