That episode didn't sound familiar, so I went looking on the Wikipedia and was surprised to learn that there was a 1980s version of "The Jetsons." I either never knew or forgot this, and I'm pretty sure I never saw it. This episode would appear to be from the 1987 season, titled "Clean as a Hound's Tooth" judging from the minimal summary at tv.com. Strange the things that one can miss.

Not terribly surprising that such an episode would go overboard; it seems to be pretty much standard that new versions of old American cartoons rather suck, although oddly the new version of "Tom and Jerry" isn't totally hideous from the one ep I've watched.
