Illegal Immigrants
Here's an excerpt from something I wrote over on Askville in a thread about illegal immigration. I found this particular bit rather amusing; maybe you will too.
They [illegal immigrants] occupy whole sectors of the American economy. The meat-packing and processing industry, for example, where they're favored as employees because they aren't able to call OSHA over dangerous working standards. As a result, illegals get killed in our factories and meat-processing plants every year; if you eat ground beef, you've probably EATEN a little bit of more than one illegal immigrant!
I don't see the American business community ever giving up cheap, disposable, edible labor, so I'll say it again: this whole topic is a smokescreen.

Argh.
There was a kid named Miguel Lopez back in my junior high school. He was also in my Boy Scout den (or whatever the hell the group was called). The second meanest kid I ever saw. One time at Scout camp, just as we were all getting our gear out of the van on the first day, he kicked me right in the balls without warning. As I lay writhing on the ground, he laughed and danced around me, singing "Tu es cadda mierda" over and over.
Eventually our den leader (or whatever) got sick of it, and he had the two of us fight it out so it would be "settled for good". The method of combat he chose? Wrestling. Now, I had a few pounds and inches on Miguel - not a lot, just a few - but I also had a bit of experience with wrestling, and I was pretty good at it. I think the den leader knew that. So it wasn't long before I pinned the bastard. He wasn't quite as nasty after that.
Anyway, the reason I've gone into all of this is that one time during a baseball game at school, Miguel was up at bat. Just as he was about to swing, someone (NOT me, it wouldn't have even crossed my mind) shouted "Taco!". He whiffed spectacularly. I'll admit that I completely cracked up.
Anyway, it just struck me that under the "edible labor" idea, "taco" could have been literal. I guess I'm in a silly mood today. Sorry!
