The fact that scientists are finding out more and more that there is a strong genetic component to peoples political and religious beliefs, it makes me believe more and more in memetics, such that ideas and thoughts are like viruses, each one trying to manipulate it's host environment to reproduce and defend itself.

Certainly, that explains so much of the world, and why it's so screwed up...
