Holy cow...

I didn't watch the slaughterhouse video.

Teri did. They showed it on one of the morning "happy news" shows that she watches = probably the Today Show, I'd guess. I'm frankly quite surprised that they'd show something like that.

I only saw a second or two of it when I looked up the video on YouTube.

Now, I've probably eaten more beef than just anyone anyone alive. Ask anyone who knows me. But when I went to the supermarket, I couldn't bring myself to buy beef. When I went past it, all I could see was those poor cows being tortured.

I think we're going to have to start buying organic beef from Whole Foods, even though it's much more expensive. And I'll have to ask if it's humanely slaughtered, too. We won't be able to afford as much beef...but, well, now that we've seen how the cows are treated, we don't really have a choice.

I don't buy regular beef anymore- I either get organic beef or kosher beef.

You may consider kosher or halal meat- A lot of people think the kosher or halal kills are cruel (you slit the cow's throat), but the goal is to do it all in one action, before the animal realizes it's being killed. Kosher meat is also generally killed in cleaner conditions, and cannot have eaten anything with other animals in it, or it would violate kosher law. I can't speak for Halal, since I'm not Muslim, but I think they have similar laws.

Shaws carries an organic meat line, Wild Harvest. You may wish to check and see if that would meet your specifications, since it would likely be cheaper than Whole Foods.

Good luck!

Seriously, you'd never seen it? I saw it on the news shows I watch on Channel 5 (ABC) and I'm pretty sure on Good Morning America (it's on when I'm getting ready to leave). Do you just never watch regular broadcast news? I don't have cable and I'm not really planning on it unless it turns out that digital really is as bad for reception as it may end up being so I don't have all the cable news channels, but I'd still think that it would show up on those news shows. It wasn't exactly a secret.

I don't know, but it just seems at times like I'm the only person I know (outside of work) who actually watches the news or reads the paper. :/

I'm betting.....

Dollars to donuts I'm the only one reading this who has actually seen a cow slaughtered, live and in person.

Oh, and there was a state (Colorado) inspector there.
