I Rate McAfee
I am an altruist. The thought that other innocent users might have to suffer through what I've gone through with McAfee has led me to post warnings wherever appropriate, all out of selfless good will.
Either that, or I'm a vengeful bastard.
Here's my post on Cnet's SpamKiller 5.0 feedback forum:
Cons? There are more than I can list here. It conflicts with McAfee's VirusScan; how does 88 clicks each time you boot up sound? McAfee's tech support is TOTALLY clueless (it has been six weeks now and they STILL haven't found a SpamKiller "expert" to help me). It kills good email and lets spam through. And it slows mail reception down ENORMOUSLY. It has filtering options, but doesn't seem to recognize its own filters - it's still letting spam through that I've specifically filtered out.
One of my many late-night online conversations with a McAfee tech is available here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/bobquasit/22888.html .
WARNING: Once McAfee has your account set for automatic credit card renewal, they will NOT turn it off. I had to contact my credit card company to block them. In the meantime I've uninstalled it and replaced it with POPfile, which is fast, free, and after only one hour of training is far superior to SpamKiller, to my amazement.
I used to recommend McAfee's VirusScan, but after all this I'm switching to Norton!
