Voting Time
I just found out that today is voting day in Rhode Island for the Democratic Primary. So I'll have to rush back in order to be able to vote before the polls close at 9PM (I always vote).
I've been trying to figure out who to vote for.
Kucinich's views are MUCH closer to my own, but at this point it's a vanity campaign, I'm sorry to say. That would pretty much be a wasted vote, because the Democratic Party leadership would just discount it as a looney left liberal New England vote.
There's no way in hell I'd vote for John Kerry unless it was a general election against George W. Bastard. This primary vote is my opportunity to tell the Democratic Party leadership just how pissed off I am at their pitiful performance over the past decade-plus. And Kerry is the very epitome of the DNC. Not to mention that I think he'll lose the general election.
Which makes it an easy choice, actually. Statistically Edwards can't win, and his policies are no more appealing to me than Kerry's; the only reason I'd vote for him would be because his charisma might work a bit better against GWB than Kerry's Carl Hill impersonation (after Hill's decapitation and reanimation, mind you). Okay, I like the way Edwards talks about the class warfare that the GOP has been waging, but that's not enough to swing my vote.
I didn't agree with all of Howard Dean's policy proposals, but a lot of them were pretty damned good - particular the media monopoly breakup. And I REALLY liked the way that his campaign encouraged participation by ordinary voters, not just viewing them as cash cows the way the f--king DNC does (not that the GOP isn't a thousand times worse). Dean's still on the ballot, so I'm voting for Dean - because even if it's impossible, I want this country back.
I hope the DNC gets the message.
