Sebastian In School

Teri just dropped Sebastian off for his second full day of school. She tells me he cried hysterically. I'll call in half an hour to see how he's doing.

Tuesday March 23rd was his first full day. Again, I couldn't be there (I'm taking the 6:42 train in these days), but Teri kept me up to speed.

He cried quite a bit when she took him there; she had to stay for half an hour until he calmed down enough for her to slip out while he was distracted. Throughout the day he cried, off and on, but was comforted by his teacher; he's already formed an attachment to her, I guess (unfortunately she's not there today). He was also entertained by their extensive train tables and Thomas the Tank Engine collection. In fact, he made a special point of telling me that they have Peter Sam, Duncan, and Cranky the Crane.

The playground was a high point of the day, by all accounts. Sebastian told me that they don't have swings, but they have bikes; he rode a red one (I presume this means he sat on it and maybe pushed along with his feet, since he hasn't mastered peddling yet). He only picked at his lunch, but that's understandable.

At nap time the normal procedure is that sleeping bags are taken out, the children watch a five or ten-minute video, and then take their naps. But as soon as the bags were out Sebastian said "I want to lie down" and went to sleep. This is pretty surprising, because normally he HATES naps! After he woke up, he apparently became quite a chatterbox. Tearful moments of missing home and his parents continued, off and on, but we're told that he was very well behaved and should make the adjustment without a problem.

When Teri came to pick him up, he didn't react too much. He sang the color song to his teacher, who was surprised (wait until she finds out that he knows his ABCs and counting), and said goodbye.

This morning, he did something funny: he asked for a Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang puzzle. Teri told him that she didn't think there was such a thing. His response: "Santa will make one for me!"

Smart boy.
