Holy Cow!
I was walking up the stairs at the Ruggles T station this evening when I suddenly realized that the man walking down the stairs opposite me looked awfully familiar. He and I were the only people on the stairs, and I couldn't help but stare. Was it really him?
As I got closer he saw me staring - I guess he's used to it. In a voice that hasn't changed much since he was on TV he said "Hello, there."
"Hello!" I said with a huge smile, my voice a bit high from surprise, and we both kept on walking.
It was Michael Dukakis.
He's looking much better (and a bit taller) than I would have expected, but it was definitely him.
I should explain that he lives in the area (Brookline, actually), and has always taken public transportation, going back to the days when he was governor.
It was surprisingly nice to see him! A very decent guy who was screwed by the Bush crime family.
