Blame Unquietsoul5
...because he posted an alignment quiz.
I hate memes, but I'm a roleplayer; how could I resist? So I took it, and to my disappointment scored as Neutral Good.
So then a wild idea crossed my brain: why not take the quiz as George W. Bush? What alignment is he?
I grew up with his kind of person; I'm pretty positive I can get into his head. So I did, and took the test.
Okay, I'll LJ-cut since this is long.
The immediate problem was that there are some slippery definitions. Depending on how the question is interpreted, the answer could range toward either extreme. For example, question #2 is "Laws should be changed when they don't uphold the right." If "Right" was capitalized, and could be considered the religious Right, then of course the answer would be absolutely yes, for Bush. But that's not the intent of the question; I judge it to mean "do you respect the law".
The problem is that I am reasonably sure that Bush respects the law only as a weapon to use against those who oppose him, not as an ideal. Also, I am quite sure that his definition of "the right" (in the non-political sense) is utterly opposite to my own definition. So how to answer?
Since enforcing his will and absolute uniformity on others is a clear hallmark of this administration, I decided that absolute disagreement was the most accurate Bush response. Since he IS ultimately the Law, the law is sacrosanct in a Bush world. It can be changed at will, but only for his convenience...and that is his ultimate law.
That said, this was a case of absolutes. There were five possible answers for each of the 45 questions, ranging from Disagree to Agree, and in almost every case the Bush response was at an extreme end of the range. In a few rare cases the response was in the exact middle, for reasons that I will explain below.
1. I would sell out a friend for the right amount of money.
2. Laws should be changed when they don't uphold the right.
3. I believe very strongly in anarchy.
4. There must be a balance in all areas of life.
5. I would never commit a crime.
6. Laws are a wonderful way to increase the common good.
7. I don't usually pay attention to speed limit signs.
8. I enjoy playing pranks in good humor.
9. I don't mind hurting people as long as its not technically illegal.
10. I would steal a road sign if I knew it would make the perfect present for a friend.
11. I go out of my way to help others.
12. I enjoy spending time with the elderly.
13. Laws which are unjust must be torn down.
14. I have problems with authority figures.
15. It is important to obey the law.
16. I don't put much value in rules or codes of behavior.
17. I don't care what happens as long as I benefit.
18. Doing what's right is the most important thing.
19. I would like to be a judge.
20. I would enjoy seeing my enemies in pain.
21. I would not accept a bribe.
22. I can't complain as long as nobody breaks the law.
23. Stealing is wrong.
24. Having a lot of money is more important than having a lot of friends.
25. I have high respect for policemen.
26. I choose to do my damage from within the system rather than outside.
27. I don't mind using people to hurt others.

42. I would sacrifice myself to help others.
43. The Law is always right.
44. Revenge is a powerful motivator for me.

1. I would sell out a friend for the right amount of money.
Agree. Obvious.
2. Laws should be changed when they don't uphold the right.
Disagree. Much like reality, "the right" doesn't seem to be a factor in GWB's thinking.
3. I believe very strongly in anarchy.
Disagree. The enforcement of absolute loyalty and uniformity in everyone around him indicates that "anarchy" is not a state GWB prefers.
4. There must be a balance in all areas of life.
Disagree. He prefers extreme positions.
5. I would never commit a crime.
Disagree. Obviously, or he wouldn't have to have hid his personal record.
6. Laws are a wonderful way to increase the common good.
Agree. Of course, laws are for other people - not him.
7. I don't usually pay attention to speed limit signs.
Agree. Obvious.
8. I enjoy playing pranks in good humor.
Agree. Or malice. Either way. But malice is more satisfying.
9. I don't mind hurting people as long as its not technically illegal.
Agree. Obvious.
10. I would steal a road sign if I knew it would make the perfect present for a friend.
Agree. Would also steal an election, Social Security, or anything else not nailed down.
11. I go out of my way to help others.
Disagree. Obvious.
12. I enjoy spending time with the elderly.
Disagree. This was a little tough; he seems to have real issues with his father, and my guess is he has little patience with those he views as weak, feeble, or helpless.
13. Laws which are unjust must be torn down.
Disagree. Since he considers himself the Law, he cannot possibly be unjust. No mistakes, ever.
14. I have problems with authority figures.
Agree. Again, his history with his father is the most obvious issue - despite the fact that he is now the ultimate "authority figure" himself.
15. It is important to obey the law.
Disagree. Again, tough. Clearly he has no regard for international law, or any other insofar as it would impinge on what he wants to do. It's difficult to nail down a consistant Bush position. But then, he's not very consistant.
16. I don't put much value in rules or codes of behavior.
Disagree. For himself, no. But for others, very much yes. Look at his treatment of the press.
17. I don't care what happens as long as I benefit.
Agree. Obvious.
18. Doing what's right is the most important thing.
Diagree. Now, if it had been "Doing what's best for me"…
19. I would like to be a judge.
Agree. Particularly one who could use the death sentence.
20. I would enjoy seeing my enemies in pain.
Agree. Obvious.
21. I would not accept a bribe.
Disagree. Obvious.
22. I can't complain as long as nobody breaks the law.
Disagree. HE may always complain. No one else can, though.
23. Stealing is wrong.
Disagree. Obvious.
24. Having a lot of money is more important than having a lot of friends.
Agree. Obvious.
25. I have high respect for policemen.
Disagree. Given the way he has cut their funding, obviously not.
26. I choose to do my damage from within the system rather than outside.
Neither. He's willing to break the system, but as a result he now IS the system; this is too philosophical for him, so I gave it a pass.
27. I don't mind using people to hurt others.
Agree. Obvious.
28. I make it a game to break the law without getting caught.
Agree. Obvious.
29. I laugh at others' misfortune.
Agree. "Please don't kill me" while snickering; obvious.
30. I try to use the rules of the game to my advantage.
Agree. Obvious. But he'll also break them if he can get away with it. His advantage is all that matters.
31. I hate a lot of people.
Agree. Obvious.
32. I intend to work my whole life to uphold what is right and good.
Disagree. Obvious.
33. I have high respect for the founders of our country.
Disagree. Given what he's done to their system of checks and balances, obviously not.
34. Anarchy is a very important principle to me.
Neither. Anarchy for himself, si; absolute order and obedience from everyone else is also required. So it's a wash.
35. I don't mind hurting someone else for personal gain.
Agree. Obvious.
36. I enjoy helping others.
Disagree. Obvious.
37. Law is very important for a successful society.
Neither. See #34 above. But given the black-hole deficits he's running up, and the nuclear time-bomb that is Iraq, it wouldn't seem that a "successful" society is something he worries about.
38. I give to charities.
Disagree. Actually, he may; but I'd bet that he either makes more back from taking deductions than he gives, or that he has been forced to do it to look good politically. So it's not really charity.
39. Revenge is an appropriate response to being slighted.
Agree. Obvious.
40. You can't trust anybody but yourself.
Agree. There's some paranoia there, pretty clearly.
41. Helping others is more important than following the rules.
Disagree. Helping others is to be avoided at all costs. Unless they're giving you money, of course.
42. I would sacrifice myself to help others.
Disagree. But he will sacrifice any number of others to suit his convenience.
43. The Law is always right.
Neither. He despises the law, but he IS the Law; a wash.
44. Revenge is a powerful motivator for me.
Agree. Obvious.
45. Without darkness there can be no light.
Neither. That's MUCH too philosophical for him.
And the result:
Chaotic Evil, of course. No surprises there.
