Sebastian, Peter and the Wolf

Sebastian and I were listening to Peter and the Wolf again. Sebastian mentioned that the wolf had three horns; that puzzled me, until I realized that when Boris Karloff introduces the characters in the story, the wolf is represented by the three (musical) horns.

Later, as the hunters were leading the wolf to the zoo in the big parade, Sebastian asked me if children would be able to pat the wolf.

"No," I answered, not wanting him to think that it was safe to touch wolves, "because the wolf would - CHOMP! - bite off their hands!"

"But they could pat him on the top of his head."

"They could?"

"Yes. They'd just have to take off his three horns first."
