Another letter to my senator, Lincoln Chafee
Why is it that every time I write to a politician, I end up sounding like a politician?
Of course I'll get a kiss-off response. "I appreciate your concern, thank you for your valuable input" yadda yadda yadda.
This guy has got to go. He just doesn't have the spine for the job.
Sir:
I am horrified and outraged by the report I just read on CNN which states that you support cutting Social Security benefits for the middle class. I've contributed fully to Social Security; I expect it to be one of the mainstays of my retirement. Yet because I make more than $22,000, I am now told that you support a cut in my benefit.
Why not instead raise, or better still ELIMINATE the ceiling on income which is subject to Social Security withholding? Cutting the middle-class benefit is utterly indefensible morally - even more so because we in the middle class are under pressure as never before, in no small part thanks to the recent bankruptcy bill which YOU supported.
Life is hard enough. We elected you to represent us, not to speed the process of our financial ruination!
Of course I'll get a kiss-off response. "I appreciate your concern, thank you for your valuable input" yadda yadda yadda.
