You won't believe it...

Teri won tickets to a concert.

Actually, she didn't win them. She called the radio station and told them she'd take them off their hands. All she had to do was go and pick them up.

And why were the tickets hers for the asking? Because they were for a Yanni concert. The station (MIX 98.5) doesn't play Yanni, and their listeners are not Yanni fans - except for Teri, apparently.

Okay, it's easy to chuckle at Yanni. I'm not sure why.

I'm suddenly remembering a parody of Zamfir called Zambeer. He played a sixpack of beer. Drunk, of course. Very funny. Where did that memory come from?

Anyway, the concert was last night in Worcester. It was cold as hell, and we had a long walk from the restaurant to the concert. But we made it, and it was actually a really good show. The classical purist in me (instilled by my father) does sneer a little at Yanni as a bastardization of the classics, but actually the music is quite lovely and the light show was well done. He has an orchestra of about 25 people, including two Armenian violinists who were quite good. I also liked the hammered dulcimer. The flutist played an Armenian duduk for one song; that took me back to my childhood, during family reunions in West Roxbury.

The concert was loud, but not painfully loud, and we had a lot of fun. It also didn't go too late; it started at 8pm, and ended at about 10:15. We got lucky and found a quick route home, and were in bed before 11pm.

Just for the record. :D
