The affect is pretty much an annoyance for me. My concern at the moment is, well, if the election results actually by some wild circumstance lead to an actual functional democracy in Iraq the Bushies are going to take that as vindication no matter if the original stated purposes are invalid. We might see a reinforcement of the current GOP regime and an encouragement of more adventurism. And if the situation dissolves into civil war or just chaos, well, do the Bushies put in a draft so that they have the cannon fodder to continue an occupation?
It's not directly affecting me, other than the negative effects on our economy. The Bushies, after all, have decided that contrary to preveious history there must be tax cuts during a war. Oh well....
My Cousin's husband has done too tours in this war. And of course our mutual friend who was supposed to get shipped over there from what he was saying at Arisia.
And of course my Uncle by marriage who passed away last year from having served in the first Gulf War (he was one of those 'mystery ailment' victims, from what my Aunt has said, the one's that may have been caused by the depeleted unranium or them blowing up various chemical weapon dumps, or the burning oil fields' fallout etc. but which the government denies the war being the source of their various problems). The guy wasn't a front line combatant, he was an Army Cook, but there's no such thing as safe over there.
