#5, huh? I guess that'll have to do, considering how much work I'd have to put in to take over charibdis.

How many of the Top 10 do you know, and how many are "Who the heck are you?!" people?

Too much information

[identity profile] bobquasit.livejournal.com 2005-04-05 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Remember, those statistics cover the lifetime of my journal - from August 6th, 2003 (http://www.livejournal.com/users/bobquasit/2003/08/06/) to the present.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] charibdis (who's the reason I'm on LJ) hasn't been very active on LJ for a long time (although I still do hear from him via email, fortunately), so his numbers aren't likely to go up.

As for how I know the top ten, that's a good question. Hmm...of the top ten, four are real-world friends. Actually I could actually say five are, because I'd bet that the preponderance of anonymous posts are from one person, my friend who goes by the handle flight-of-stairs. She had an account here for a little while, but let it lapse; some day I hope to persuade her to get a new one, if only to be able to read my friends-only posts. Incidentally, on the whole list she's Sebastian's favorite, although he knows (and likes) [livejournal.com profile] charibdis and [livejournal.com profile] klyfix from the real world. He's met [livejournal.com profile] unquietsoul5 in the real world too, but only for moments at Arisia and such; I'm sure he wouldn't remember him. Although if I can find a way to get up to Boston more often, I'd be glad to rectify that situation.

Hmm. I don't know how everyone in [livejournal.com profile] unquietsoul5's household feels about children, now that I think of it.

I may have met [livejournal.com profile] rantmaster at [livejournal.com profile] unquietsoul5's place, too.

As for the rest...wait, come to think of it I've also been in the same room as [livejournal.com profile] zarhooie once at Arisia. But I'm sure she didn't notice me. Let's see, I sat on a panel with [livejournal.com profile] happypete once, which is how we ended up friending each other. I probably met several other people here via Arisia, come to think of it.

I met [livejournal.com profile] collie13 long ago through my old APA connections, but we met once or twice in the real world when she visited the East Coast.

So out of the top 29, I'd say that I don't really know 16 of them.

Hey. Do I do the most ridiculously long responses, or not? Image

Hmmm... side note Charibdis has not updated his journal in like 44 weeks or so... very sporatic.

The rest of my household can deal with kids, but not so well with babies... Kiralee avoids them as they may explode at any time, especially if anyone asks her to hold one. :-)

Cindy... I never know how Cindy will react to anything.

I'm ok with kids, as you know, though it depends on the kid. I get along fine with Kiralee's nephew, for example (he's a big doctor who fan, and is old enough to carry on conversations reasonably well etc.).

I did have some terrifying experiences a decade and a half ago with having to deal with a very hyperactive, somewhat destructive, sociopathic and rebellious five year old that convinced me I was not of the proper temperment for dealing with kids.

I think you met rantmaster via me at Arisia actually...

Hmm. I guess Sebastian no longer counts as a baby, and he's relatively well-behaved, but he IS three years old...which means that he can get bored when adults are talking to each other for more than a minute or so. At which point he generally starts asking questions, and if ignored, repeats the questions over and over at an ever-increasing volume.

This may or may not be coupled with frenzied tugging on my hand or shirt. :D

Interesting!

I'm pretty sure I found your LJ via charibdis, an online friend of mine. I'm not sure why exactly I find your LJ so interesting (especially considering that my politics are so very opposite of yours) but for some reason I do.

I think it's because I like the way you write. Even when your writing makes my blood boil. :)

One of the great things about you is your eagerness to at least hear/read other viewpoints.

[identity profile] charibdis.livejournal.com 2005-04-05 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. Number 4, huh? And not that far behind the top spots. I just couldn't let that pass without a comment of some kind. :)

As for why I haven't been posting much, well, there are privacy issues that have reared their ugly heads. I don't mind the people who I have friended seeing my livejournal, but there are others I would really rather not divulge any personal details too.

[identity profile] bobquasit.livejournal.com 2005-04-05 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Couldn't you make your posts (or your whole journal) friends-only? Just wondering.

[identity profile] charibdis.livejournal.com 2005-04-06 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
That doesn't help if livejournal friends then discuss the contents of my journal.

[identity profile] bobquasit.livejournal.com 2005-04-06 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
But if they discuss it in the comments section of a friends-only post, the comments would still be friends-only.

And I hope that all your friends are responsible enough that they wouldn't discuss your posts online in insecure areas, particularly if you asked them not to.

Of course, given the way LiveJournal is, you might not be able to trust all of your friends to that extent; particularly the ones that you don't know IRL. But I believe that you could create sub-groups of friends, and write posts with reading privileges for those sub-groups only.

On the other hand, if we're talking about government secrets or something, friends-only would not be sufficient protection. The whole Dittoster thing (or whatever it was called) shows that untrustworthy friends can screw things up no matter HOW carefully you try to protect your privacy.

Still, it would be awfully nice to see more posts from you.
