Cat Insanity
We spent a lot of the weekend out in our back yard. I barbecued twice, and lit a fire in our chiminea to burn up our bastard of a rose bush. I hate that plant - really. It seems to want to hurt me, and it keeps getting its thorns under my skin. We cut it almost totally down, though, and I'm planning to keep that bastard down.
I also got quite a bad sunburn on my head.
But that's beside the point.
On Friday, a young black & white cat spent a lot of time in the back yard with us. Sebastian was thrilled. We fed the cat a bowl of dry cat food, and he kept coming back to the yard.
He played a lot with Sebastian, and at one point he did something completely amazing: he actually climbed up the ladder of Sebastian's swing/slide set. That's a pretty good climb for a young cat, and it was a little bit of a struggle. We watched in amazement as Sebastian laughed himself silly.
"Hon," I said, "if he slides down that slide we may have to adopt him."
Sure enough, right after I said that the cat slid - really slid, sitting up and not trying to walk or struggle - down that slide. We were stunned.
Later that afternoon I realized that we hadn't seen that cat for about half an hour. That was odd; he'd been running around the adjacent yards, but kept coming back to us every ten minutes or so. I hoped Sebastian wouldn't be upset, and walked over to the house to get myself a cup of water.
Care to guess who I saw staring at me through a window from inside our glassed-in back porch? Yup! I called Teri and Sebastian over, and Teri asked Sebastian if he'd let the kitty into the house. He instantly burst into tears and insisted that he hadn't. It was a surprising reaction.
I went in to find both of our other cats within a few feet of the intruder, staring at him with undisguised hate on their furry faces. The strange cat jumped down and ran out the door as soon as I opened it. He hung around for a bit, and then left.
I hope we see him again.
