"Made object"

Can anyone suggest a good word (one word only if at all possible) which could be used to designate a made or crafted item? "Artifact" is the only good one I can think of, and it can be misinterpreted in a roleplaying context.

I need to distinguish natural objects from artificial ones...hmm. "Artificial"? Maybe. Though that includes a connotation that isn't quite right.
