Right lower lateral incisor

Sebastian lost his right lower lateral incisor on Tuesday night at dinner. He should have lost it weeks earlier, but the thought of losing a tooth scares him a lot - even though he's done it five times now. In fairness, I'm pretty sure that it used to scare me, too.

He was eating a snowflake roll, and suddenly started crying - the "scared" sort of crying, where his face gets all red and screwed up, and big tears practically shoot out of his eyes. He choked out that he'd lost his tooth, and that his mouth was full of blood - "it's all salty!".

It was full of blood. So we took him to the bathroom and had him rinse out his mouth. He kept crying, though, and asked for Teri to hold him.

(I wanted to hold him, of course, but there are times when I guess a mother is best. And he and I share so many things that it would be terrible of me to begrudge Teri that "ultimate comforter" role.)

Anyway, we put him to bed. I had a silver dollar that I picked up a month ago in anticipation, so I polished it up with some baking soda. I was surprised at how easily it shined up, and how good it looked when it was done. It was a 1921 silver dollar, incidentally, and I was slightly to see "In God We Trust" was on it.

It was easy to make the swap, and in the morning Sebastian came running over to show us what the Tooth Fairy had brought.
