That wonderful compassionate conservative!

The NYT published an opinion piece by Jacob Weisberg about how much he misses that wonderful compassionate conservative, George W. Bush. He admits that he (the compassionate conservative) was mostly fictional, but still pretends that there was some reality to him. I couldn't resist making a comment, which the Times couldn't bring itself to approve:

Oh, please. How many times can the media stick its collective head in a bag and insist on ignoring the truth?

It's obvious to anyone with a functioning brain-stem - which apparently doesn't include the media - that all of Bush's "compassionate" talk was pure and simple BS from day one. He'd spew out some sunshine-and-flowers talk, and the media would dutifully wheel out their tired old "compassionate conservative" line. And somehow they never bothered to pay attention to the fact that Bush NEVER FOLLOWED THROUGH.

Over and over and over. The trick worked every time, so why should he bother to modify it? Talk moderate, govern like a generalissimo, and the media will lap it up like the toadies that they are.

But now we know better. We know that the media isn't really that stupid; after all, you're the intellectual elite (as you tell us every day). No, you weren't taken in by Bush. You deliberately CHOSE to swallow his obvious lies and market them to the public you were supposed to be serving. And in doing so, you have destroyed the journalistic credibility of centuries.

Your greed may well have put the future of our entire *species* in jeopardy. There simply is no condemnation strong enough to describe you.
