Holding on
I got a call from an emergency room doctor at Speare, where they x-rayed my elbow. The NP didn't see it, but apparently there is a bone chip that was knocked loose from my elbow. He can't be sure, but he said that it didn't look like the sort of chip that they'd operate for; I didn't ask him, mind you, he volunteered that.
I have an appointment to see an orthopedist on Friday. I guess I'll find out more then.
In the meantime, I'm still in a fair amount of pain if I move my arm much. The pain is as much in my bicep and other muscles as in the elbow itself. I wear the sling for most of the day, of course, as the doctor recommended. I've already lost a lot of strength in my arm. I'm taking massive doses of ibuprofen (as recommended by the doctor) and Vicodin as needed, which is rarely. I can't straighten my arm out all the way because the muscles hurt too much, but I can stretch it more each day and it hurts a little less. Still I don't stretch or move it much because they told me not to. Icing does help a little. Unfortunately I keep bumping it on door frames, and that hurts a lot.
It really sucks using only one hand on the computer.
I have to admit that I'm a little nervous. I'd rather avoid surgery, but if they say it's necessary to regain full function, I'll do it. I hate that I have to wait for another three days.
