WoW update: Fighter
A new friend (level 80!) ran Lukemac (fighter/miner/smith, currently level 21) through the Deadmines. I wasn't much help and didn't get much experience, but I was able to get a really nice two-handed maul. He also made a Frostweave bag for me which actually holds more than my backpack (!), since I kept running out of inventory space.
Eventually I got up to 20th level, but I don't have enough money to buy a mount or training yet. Nor do my other characters have enough to make up the difference. But I'm working on it.
I haven't seen him online since, but I've been playing the fighter quite a bit; the person I normally play with when I'm playing my mage hasn't been on in a while, and my character is off in a place that would be difficult to return to if I hearthstoned out, so I'm kind of limited in what I can do with him (Omacmage). I wake him up every so often to go around killing a few things in the immediate locale (monsters actually come right up to the Inn!) and picking herbs (there are some good ones around).
Last time I went herb-picking on the nearby Stonetalon mountains, I spotted some Horde PCs sneaking towards us. So I turned around and rode back to the Inn like crazy, yelling "The Horde is coming!". But no one listened. I'm not sure that there were any other PCs there. It's a quiet area. So I ran into the hotel, went to sleep, and logged out immediately.
Anyway, I installed the Quest Helper add-on. It wasn't hard to do, and it seems moderately useful. Using it, I managed to get my fighter up to level 21 pretty quickly. He's MUCH more effective now with that big two-handed hammer and his level-20 skills! I still die once in a while, but not very often.
Recently I've been on quests that involve killing ogres near Loch Modan (I swam across the Loch). The ogres resemble the ogres from the old Warcraft II game, and it's a real kick to be able to kill them relatively easily.
The one thing I wish I could do is find some silver to mine! Maybe I should look for a resource-finder add-on. If anyone can recommend one, please do!
