Words fail me

Teri just called. The Nissan's "Service Engine Soon" light just came on. According to her mechanic, that means we have to have the manifold intake valve replaced NOW. $800.

On top of $5,000 yesterday for the furnace. AND $225 yesterday to have the main drain line unclogged. And the flashing replacement on the roof which could cost from $300-$500.

Hmm. The downside of higher tech in cars, perhaps, is that more stuff can't just be fixed (or kludged to work) by Joe Average with a few basic tools. But then again, I have little idea what a "manifold intake valve" is. Or a roof "flashing replacement" for that matter. I just remember that cars are Money Eaters, although to be sure the main reasons I don't have one are a generally low income and the fact that I'm such a poor driver that I'd not likely survive on the road in New England.
