I was just thinking of writing an entry about why I haven't been writing much lately. Basically, I don't know why, but I also don't suppose it matters much. Then I saw a news story that surprised me.

George Takei has announced that he's gay. Go figure.

I'm not terribly surprised, actually. I wonder if this makes it more or less likely that they'll give him his own Trek show?

My thought when I saw it was that the activists who had been campaigning for a gay Trek character now know there was one all along....

(Uhh, something like; add eloquence to make it make sense.)

Of course, well, it's not like it was anybody's business and back in the Sixties it certainly wouldn't have helped his career if the general public knew. One wonders if that had anything to do with Shatner's seeming lack of respect for him (referring to him as "Georgie," that sort of thing), although I'm guessing that's more of a "I was the star, you're just spear carriers" attitude.

As for a Trek show, well, there was talk of one for a while but I rather doubt they'd do a Trek set in the period between TOS and STNG. And for good reason; "Enterprise" didn't do all that well and I suspect that at least some fans think that it would be better to show what happens to the Federation after the rather severe disruptions of the Dominion War.
