Just a quick note: something interesting from a friend of mine. He has a journal on LJ, but doesn't post on it.

His father lives in the Netherlands, and sends him mail every so often. Just to be clear, his father is an American citizen and does not have an Arabic name (nor is he, in fact, Arabic).

Anyway, my friend recently received a letter from his father. It had been cut open, and then taped shut again. And it had been stamped "Inspected by the Department of Homeland Security".

The US does seem to blatantly infrige upon the rights of people. The Royal Mail scares is what has put me off sending letters, and that's a minority of people and it's still illegal. For the government to endorse this kind of mail interference seems both highly unethical and unconstitutional.
