The Bear Facts

Sebastian has croup, so I haven't had much sleep for the past few days. But yesterday he made quite a funny joke.

He has a new orange bear that he calls Harry Bear. He was sitting next to me when he held it up and said,

"Harry Bear name is Harry...Bear." Putting down Harry, he picked up his old black bear. With a very sly smile: "Black Bear name is Harry too."

I laughed and laughed and laughed. It was a very odd sort of toddler-humor, but somehow I understood it. And he was definitely making a two-year-old joke.

Uhhh, that's nice Peter... since Bethany is only one, Sebastian's humor (and taht of his weird daddy) are too sophisticated for me.

Glad he's well!

I don't think it's a matter of sophistication...some of it falls into the "you had to be there" category, I guess. So I'm the only one who will be able to appreciate it by reading it here. Well, me and Sebastian, if he remembers.

A lot of what I write here about Sebastian I write for me, so that I can remember. Which probably explains why so much of it is incomprehensible (or just plain boring) to anyone else. :D

The expression on his face when he made the joke was priceless, though. He knew he was being funny, and had a very sly smile on his face - he looked a lot like my maternal grandmother at that moment. I wish she could have seen him.

That reminds me of a funny thing my brother Alan wrote* when he was in kindergarten: "There once were two brothers named John and John..."

I thought it was very funny at the time.
