Globe screw-up
I had forgotten that I'd sent it in as a letter to the editor - I thought I'd just done it as a post in their discussion board, which appears to have been deleted - but to my complete amazement, the Boston Globe printed my comment today about their recent article on area cons as a letter.
I hope it didn't sound too geeky, despite the obnoxious title that they added.

And of course you made something of the point that I made elsewhere; it's a bit odd that the article totally ignored the existance of Arisia. I really have to figure that a Boskone person pitched the story to the reporter; it's pretty much a blurb for Boskone and Pandemonium.
On the other hand, is Arisia really the big SF con in Boston now? The most sucessful tangentally related con is probably Anime Boston which from what I gather in its very first run had more people than Arisia ever does and has gotten bigger since then. And it seems like Arisia has in some ways been getting smaller; there are fewer "name" writers and I think fewer panels than there used to be. Mind you, I had a good time this year, going to my very first webcomic panels (which, to be sure, had some more or less "names" in that field like the Websnark folk) and the panels with guest of honor Allen Steele were quite good.
