bobquasit: (Hot day)

Here yesterday, gone today

A little while ago I realized, with a shock, that all of the people who used to chat with me most often have disappeared. And THAT made me realize that I haven't been chatting much, suddenly.

It was a big part of my life for a few weeks, and now it's gone.

Here's the funny thing: I'm not complaining.

As far as I know no one has died, or anything. Their names and icons are there, they're just always marked as offline. I have no reason to think that they're hiding from me, or anything; they're just...gone.

Yes, I miss them, but for some reason I'm not hurting the way I'd have expected. It would be nice if they came back some time, but for now...

Weird. No pain. And I don't feel abandoned or lonely. I can't explain it.

I wonder why?

Can you give me some advice or help please?

I have just typed the Maranci name and your site was the first, so I clicked on it. I am trying to find out where my mothers family are. You've probably never even been to Sicily, but I thought this is worth a try! She has lived in London since 1947 and is in her seventies now. Her dream would be to go to Sicily to see family but she has lost them. Can you advise me? If this is a silly question, I apologize. Thank you. Elena

It's not a silly question at all, but I'm afraid that I can't help you. I'm not Italian or Sicilian; I'm Armenian. My original family name was "Maranjian", until Turkish ethnic cleansing laws passed after the 1915 Armenian genocide forced my grandparents to change their name to the more Turkish-sounding "Maranci".

To the best of my knowledge my family is in no way related to the Maranci family in Sicily. Some of my other relatives may have better information, however, so I'll double-check with them. If I learn more, I'll post it here. Or you can email me; my address is in my profile.

It happens. People dump the chat programme, forget their id, setup a new one, drift, it's always the way.
