Health Notes

Two full weeks of Allegra did absolutely nothing for my sinuses; there was no effect at all. No other allergy medication has ever helped me, either, so my doctor is going to treat it as if it's a sinus infection. Which is pretty much what I suspected it was from the first.

I started a ten-day course of antibiotics last night. We discussed stronger, quicker antibiotics, but she didn't want to take a chance on upsetting my stomach; it's not terribly delicate, but she feels that it's better not to take a chance.

The pain hasn't been terrible. I've been taking ibuprofen as needed, and it helps quite a bit. The one thing I've noticed - and it may be environmental - is that I'm feeling terribly warm all the time. I don't know what it means, although the temperature control near my cube is all messed up.

It's not impossible to run a fever with a sinus infection, I've had that happen before.

I'm pretty sure it's not a fever. It's just me being heat-sensitive, probably.

Oh, and for a lot of folks anti-biotics do throw their stomachs off, and can cause diarhea among other symptoms. Best to have some yogurt while you are on them, as it will help keep your body's natural wildlife from getting killed off in the process since you need them to properly digest food.

Take a look at the side effects of Allegra. You may be surprised at what you find.

Then, stop taking the Allegra, eat some Cold-Eeze, drink some tea and relax. Scott had allergies that turned into a cold (thanks to the weakend immune system that happens with Allegra) and he finally stopped taking everything and got better within a day. Sometimes being overmedicated can just make things worse.

Those side effects are pretty damned scary - thanks for the tip. On the other hand, I didn't manifest a single one of them, as usual. So far it seems that almost NO medication can affect me. I must have the constitution of a god.

(Obligatory joke: "I have the body of a god. Buddha.")

The thing is, this damned sinus thing has been bothering me for about 24 years. I've had all sorts of treatment, and have gone for long periods with no treatment at all. Nothing seems to make any difference. There's no evidence that I have any allergies, apart from the symptoms themselves - and no allergy medication has ever had the slightest effect on me. It's very mysterious.

Once in a while I've picked up a sinus infection, notable for intense, random pain in my face, head, and upper jaw. Antibiotics generally clear it up, but the sinus discharge itself never really goes away. So the situation never changes much. I've been looked at by ENTs, and none of them are able to help. I can live with the situation, but I HATE the sinus infections - partly because the upper jaw pain always convinces me that I need root canal (scary!), and partly because it just hurts like hell. I've also found that when I get a sinus infection, all sensations of pain, everywhere in my body, are magnified to about twenty times normal. :(

That sucks :( Allegra is strange.

A good temporary remedy for the pain is to have a partner take their thumbs and press it right below your eyes, like right next to your nose. There, and between your eyes on your forehead. It feels -very- good.

Other than that do what works for ya, I guess. Might be migraines or something.. once I heard a story of a woman who had terrible sinus pain. They took an x-ray and found that she had a bean up her nose or something..
