Day Trips

When I was a kid my parents often took us on day trips and weekend trips, particularly in summer. I want to do the same thing for Sebastian, of course. So I'm trying to come up with lists of trips to take and fun things to do in the New England area - near and far.

Any suggestions would be very welcome!

Day Trips
  • Edaville Railroad, Carver MA
  • Wausahkum Live Steamers, Holliston MA - http://www.steamingpriest.com/wls/index.htm
  • Children's Museum, Boston MA
  • The Museum of Science, Cambridge MA
  • Boston Public Gardens, Boston MA
  • The Maparium at the Christian Science cathedral, Boston MA
  • Marblehead, MA
  • Cape Cod, MA
  • Provincetown, MA
  • Pound Ridge
  • Purgatory Chasm
  • Kent Falls State Park, Kent CT

Weekend Trips
  • White Mountains (Cog Railway, the Flume, etc.), NH
  • Boothbay Harbor, ME
  • Old Orchard Beach amusement park
  • Perkins Cove/Marginal Way
  • Rockport/beach
  • Westport, CT - Nature Center, Stew Leonards, Devil's Den, my old house, Stamford Zoo
  • Sleepy Hollow (Washington Irving estate), Tarrytown, NY
  • Mohonk, New Paltz NY (prohibitively expensive)

I loved the Boston Aquarium. What else.. Plymouth Plantation restoration, the Ocean Spray factory, the Mayflower.. all that historical stuff is great. Salem is really neat, too.

There's lots of neat caverns in northern NY along the thruway that wouldn't be too far from you. There's the Rockinghorse Ranch, the Catskill Game Farm.. Great Escape (amusement park of sorts, I believe).. That's about all I can think of now. I was a big fan of daytrips when I was younger, too, and it gave me some fond memories with my parents.

oh i have no idea.. my parents always took me on "educational" trips so they could act like i was learning for school... never anything fun except a sciece museum that let you touch and feel stuff.. that was cool
