I get about 350-450 hits per day on my RuneQuest web site. Of those, some are image/bandwidth leaches. I can't say precisely how many.
I find this annoying, at least if the leach doesn't include a link back to my site. Unfortunately, the lame stats program I have doesn't make it easy to find the leachers.
Today I got lucky. A Warhammer 40K site was hitting my site for 450 hits per week, but only for an image - no link. Now, the link was clearly a forum, so my guess was that someone was using one of my smaller images as a personal icon.
I don't mind people using my images within reason, but 450 hits per week without a link is a bit rude. So I went to the Warhammer site, and discovered that it was in French. Despite five years of high-school French, I can't really read the language (I got a lot of "F's"; I didn't have an ear for languages, although that has changed). But I found a tab for forums, made a few random clicks, and hit the jackpot.
The "Grande Moderateur" of the forum uses my chaos sign image (one I actually drew) as his personal icon. So I made a small improvement. Can you guess what it was?
I don't know if he'll notice or change the link, but eventually I suppose I'll put it back.

I know of this happening at this other forum I frequented and the guy who's bandwidth was being leached got pissed, so he changed the image to the McDonald's hamburglar with text pasted across it something like "This image stolen from ..." It was really funny when we saw the avatar icon with that.
You would think these numbnuts could just copy the image and host it in their own space, but I guess that's too much to ask for. There are plenty of free image hosting services.
The Improvement:
As it was, I was pretty nice: I could have put something obscene, or an anti-Bush political statement.
