People don't seem to know that flags aren't supposed to be left to get all dirty and faded like so many that went up after 9/11. Hardly respectful to it to let it get all trashed.
Of course the proper method of desposing of a flag is, well, burning (although with some ritual, as I recall). People probably don't know that either.
