Holy crap!
It's a damned good thing that I didn't miss the train this morning. Why?
Train hits truck in Franklin, injures 20
That's the train immediately after MY train. If I'd missed my 7:07 train - which I did at least three times last week - I'd have been on that 7:45 train.
Now, normally I get on at the station one minute further down the line past the crash site. We actually pass that construction site in the car on the way to the station, and if the crossing lights are flashing, we know that the odds are at least 50/50 that I'll have missed the train.
BUT...when I miss the 7:07 train, we take Sebastian to his school and then Teri drives me to the train station. And about half the time, she drives me to the Forge Park stop, because it's between Sebastian's school and Dean. In which case, I WOULD have been on that train when it hit the bucket-loader. In other words, I've BEEN on that train several times in the past few months.
I hope that doesn't sound as confusing to you as it does to me. Anyway, I'm okay, and the people on the train only had minor injuries.

(Anonymous) 2006-10-23 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)As for close calls, I think I've told my Cog Railway story. I later found out that everyone WASN'T killed:
"On September 17, 1967, eight passengers were killed and seventy-two injured when Engine #3 derailed at the Skyline switch about a mile below the summit. The engine rolled off the trestle while the uncoupled passenger car slid several hundred feet into a large rock."
I rode it as a three-year-old on September 16, or so I'm told. I don't remember it, of course.
You know, I often wonder about how much of these years Sebastian will remember. Actually, that's part of why I write quite a few entries - so he'll have something to look back on and remember.
