Awww that is such a cute story. I also love your voice, you have one of the nicest american accents I know. Where are you from originally?

I think we had this conversation before, but I'm always glad to talk about accents - and even more glad to get a compliment. :D

Thank you.

My accent is (I believe) closer to mid-Atlantic than anything else. I was born and mostly raised in Connecticut; except for five years of college in Pennsylvania, I've lived in New England for my entire life.

I do have a bit of a Zelig susceptibility; I have a bit of an ear for accents, and I tend to unconsciously absorb the accents of the place that I live.

But I can resist that tendency, and usually I apparently sound like those canned announcements that come built in to voicemail and answering services. Except that most of those now use a female voice, since studies have shown that female voices are easier to understand.

Teri has a mdoerately strong Rhode Island accent, and uses some surprising Rhode Islandisms (as does my manager, who also lives in RI). Some RI regionalisms:

"Side by each" - this would properly be "side by side".
"So didn't I" - should be "so did I". In fact, "didn't" and "doesn't" are used in place of "did" and "does", and it's frankly pretty confusing. I've been trying to correct Teri as gently as possible when she uses these regionalisms, since I don't want Sebastian to pick up on them. Likewise, I'm stressing that Sebastian needs to pronounce his terminal R's.

Of course, correcting your wife's language is a pretty dangerous thing to do. :D

What sort of accent do you have?

I'll try and make a voice recording and post that at some point, I'm too poor for voice posts atm!

At my most relaxed, I have a very dreadful Portsmouthian accent, which is fairly common sounding.

Out is prounounced as ahht.

And we always drop our t's.

I used to speak dreadfully when I was younger, but then my first proper girlfriend was very well spoken and I hated how awful I sounded when I was with her. She had elocution lessons, that's how posh she was!

So my speaking to stranger voice is a generic southern england accent, fairly soft and quiet.

Just get my drunk and you'll see how atrociously I speak when at rest ;-)

Some day he will understand how cute it is... and funny, and not so much something to be embarrassed about.
