Health Update One Million

...or it feels like it, anyway.

I went for the bronchitis, although my back is hurting more than it had for the past couple of days (perhaps because I stopped taking Vicodin and cut way down on ibuprofen). I didn't get to see my regular doctor, but the replacement, Dr. Lawrence, was really good. She listened to my chest, sent me down for a chest x-ray just in case I had walking pneumonia (apparently it has been going around), and when the films came back clear, she prescribed a five-day antibiotic: azithromycin. She told me that if the cough and congestion haven't gone within ten days, I should come back for more treatment with a different type of antibiotic.

She also gave me a prescription for Guiatuss AC, a cough medicine with codeine. I'm not to take it with the Vicodin (which I'm not going to take in any case, unless I find myself immobilized again). I'll be taking it at night, I guess.

What a boring entry. I should probably make it private.

Warning: Wild Tangenting

The silly thing that comes to my mind on reading the post is "Vicodin? Isn't that the stuff that Hugh Laurie's character on "House" is addicted to?" Mind you, the character takes the stuff like Tic-Tacs yet nonetheless is regarded as such a brilliant doctor that his boss goes so far as to perjur herself to keep him out of jail due to stuff related to his drug abuse. Laurie is great in the show, and I read (oddly, in an editorial in "Analog") the medical stuff is supposedly valid, but for all that the show is wildly implausible; the brilliant doctor generally nearly kills a patient twice before getting a sudden insight that tells him what is really wrong, and his obnoxious attitude combined with being essentially a junkie would surely get him fired from any real hospital.

There certainly seems to be a lot of some kind of sick going around. I wonder if the warm weather is rather less healthy than one might hope. Cold kills germs, after all.

fired and probably lose his license.

there is a funny recipe on whitehouse.org (a really savage parody site) for "alamo basements", a drink made with vicodin, which in one of their parodies is a favorite of one of the Bush girls.
