Aftermath

They cooked me. They electrocuted me. And then they checked to see if I was pregnant.

To be more specific, they put me on a heat pad with electro-stimulation - kind of a prickly feeling, but not intolerable. The heat, on the other hand, was actually pretty intense - almost unbearable. Next time I'll ask them to dial it down a little.

Then they used ultrasound to deep-heat the muscles, and massaged me. They also walked me through some exercises. I'll be going there twice a week for a month or two.

The pain is definitely a lot less.

Did they do "deep muscle" massage? That is really painful.

Were you a nervous wreck before you went?

No, just regular massage, I guess; it felt good, didn't hurt. I just wish I could get more of it. :(

I wasn't really nervous; I don't seem to be able to get nervous, these days. I was cold, though. It was a long, cold walk to and from the office.

I tried out the massage chair at Sharper Image (next door to where I work) rather skeptically, even though I would see people sitting in them looking very happy. I was expecting just a general vibration which doesn't feel very massage-like. Well - the chair massage felt so good that I have been considering trying to save $1,000 just to get one!

Let's start a massage chair fund. First thing - we'll put on a show!

Ya know, if you'd turned out to be pregnant that might explain a lot of the pains...uhh, yeah...

ROLFING

From http://healing.about.com/od/rolfing/Rolfing.htm

"Rolfing, also known as structural integration, is a form of bodywork named after Dr. Ida Rolf, a biochemist who was influenced by osteopathy, physical therapy, and yoga...Practitioners of Rolfing use their elbows, fingers, and knuckles to stretch and open fascia to correct the habitual patterns of misalignment in the head, shoulders, abdomen, pelvis, and legs....Rolfing usually does cause some discomfort and pain when the pressure is applied. Practitioners say this a "reaction pain" that may be necessary when releasing tissue adhesions and correcting habitually poor posture."

There's a funny parody of Rolfing in the movie Semi-Tough.
