104

Half an hour ago we checked him, and he was burning up: 104°. So we gave him the maximum allowed dose of children's Motrin (which the doctor recommended this morning - he says it's a virus). That was 300 mg at 4:30 this afternoon.

He's still pretty hot, but cooling. We have him in bed. He's fussing a lot.

Popsicles, icecream, and a tepid bath!

I second this motion! A nice, cool bath (think slightly cooler than lukewarm) will bring his temp down faster than just motrin alone. Offer him a milkshake, smoothie or slushie if you're uncomfortable with him having a drippy thing in bed. Hell, let him have his cool treat IN the tub!

Just a suggestion for when this happens. One way to help bring down a person's fever is to put them in a bathtub of water (not hot water, but room temp/cool water) for a half hour or so. This is a common way to treat heat stroke and works on any condition that produces a fever as it will dissipate their heat into the water.

Make sure to get more fluids into him as well, as fever often dehydrates the body.
