Dead

Last night I picked up a Thomas the Tank Engine game on CD-ROM at Wal-Mart. Installed it the same evening, and when it restarted my system, it was dead. A crucial DLL is missing, and the error message says that Windows needs to be reinstalled. But since I can't find a boot disk, I can't reinstall Windows.

And the computer is really, totally dead. I can't do a damn thing but get that error message. So it looks like I'm really screwed.

Question

98 SE. I just found a site online that has bootdisk images for various versions of Windows, including 98 SE; got error messages when I tried to run the executables to create the disks, but on retry things seemed to go smoothly enough. I'll take the disks home and try them tonight.

*scribles note to self* "Dear Self: Avoid Thomas the Tank CD-ROM. Also, look up maker of game and avoid other software by same company. Signed, self"

How it goes. If worse comes to worse I could make a boot disk with cindy's old machine and send it along (it's been sitting in storage for a year or so at this point and would take some effort). Thats the only 98 machine left in the house (Cindy's current is an XP, as is my absent portable, and Kiralee uses a Mac with OS9).
