Frisco the Talking Cat

Sebastian's favorite stuffed animal is Frisco (aka "Fricco"), a worn old gray cat. Somewhere along the line I made him talk using a high, scared-sounding, whiny voice - not one of my better voices, I think. Nonetheless Sebastian loves that voice, and often brings Frisco along on our morning car rides to the train station. He usually holds Frisco and just has me do the voice from the front (passenger) seat.

"Daddy, make Frisco talk!"

"Sigh. Okay...[in Frisco's voice]...what do you want me to say?"

"Anything!"

"I'm tired."

"Why?"

"Because someone didn't let me sleep in my own bed last night."

"Daddy! Frisco was with me in the bed last night!"

(I should explain that Sebastian fell asleep in our bed last night, and Teri fell asleep even before he did, so I ended up having to sleep in Sebastian's bed. It's a fairly comfortable bed; to be honest, it's better for my back than my own bed is. But I don't sleep quite as well in it, and have lots of weird dreams.)

A pause. Then, since I noticed that we were passing a llama:

"AAAAAAH! What's that monster?!"

"What monster, Fricco?"

"That brown monster with the long neck!"

"That's a llama!"

"Will he eat me?"

"No, he doesn't eat meat!"

"Am I meat?"

"You're not meat!"

"What do llamas eat, then?"

"Plants!"

"Am I a plant?"

"I don't know."

Teri: "Let's look at the label."

Sebastian passed Frisco forward to me.

[In my regular voice] "A polyester fill in a cloth bag?"

[In Frisco's voice] "I didn't want to know all those medical details!"

At that, Sebastian cracked up completely.
