Sheetless roleplaying

I can't believe that I never got around to writing up an article on sheetless roleplaying for my RQ site. How could I have missed it?

At the last Arisia I talked about sheetless roleplaying at a panel or two, and people were really interested. As I recall, I even told some of them that I'd post something about it on my site. Damn.

I'd better start giving it some thought; I don't want to just dash it off. Let's see, what's a good title...how about "Sheetless Roleplaying: Gaming On the Next Level"?

When I see "the Next Level" I tent to think of "The Next Level above Human" and the Heaven's Gate cult that did the whole suicide thing when the Hale-Bopp comet came back in 1997. :)

Of course I think you've already heard my negative feelings on "sheetless"; that it is effectively "How well can I read the GM?" and "How well can I manipulate the GM?" Since I totally suck at such psychology, I figure it would just be an effort in frustration as a player. Then again, pretty much every role-playing game I've played in has been that, so it's probably just me.

"Gaming on the Next Level" sounds kinda condescending towards other styles and types of gaming, and might put-off people who would otherwise be interested.

That sounds reasonable; it does sound rather arrogant. I was trying to find a title that expressed the extreme intensity of the sheetless roleplaying experience. Any suggestions?

Words like intense, in depth, avid, passionate seem appropriate, as its sheetless gaming is a step towards realism.
