Sebastian's orange belt

Sebastian's karate test for an orange belt was today. He qualified for the test two or three weeks ago, but he'd been behaving badly - some shouting, even some slapping - so we put a hold on that until his behavior improved.

He passed the test. I made a video; haven't had a chance to review it, though.

We're proud of him.

how old was Sebastian when he started karate? Cass is very interested but she is only 2.8 years old.

He only started this year, so that would make him six. But there are some younger kids in his class (which is the youngest); some are 4.

I was reluctant to let him start. I didn't want him trained in hitting, since we don't want him to hit. But so far it has worked out okay.

I was also reluctant because there was a boy we know distantly who is a karate champion; he has appeared on TV and that sort of thing. But he's a child molester. I realize that it's not fair to tar all of karate with the actions of this one little pervert (and I am profoundly glad to say that he has never met Sebastian, and never will), but for a long time just the thought of kids and karate creeped me out.
