A comment from Askville about DS games:
My son got one a month ago. We got my wife one for Christmas. I'm the only one in my family who doesn't have one.
Super Mario 64 is a great game, if you like that sort of thing. I'm also really looking forward to trying The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass, which is a sequel to the superb The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker on the GameCube/Wii. Both of those games are essentially RPG/adventure games, but they're beautifully done.
But the game that has REALLY hooked every adult so far is Margot's Word Brain. I picked it up from the discount bin for my wife on an impulse for Christmas, and now she's obsessed with the "Word Link" game in it. It's kind of like Boggle, except that when you make a word the letters disappear and new ones drop in from the top. It's a little quirky; there are a lot of words that you can't use (anything to do with sex or alcohol, for example, as well as words like "gay"), and it thinks that "queen" isn't a word but "quean" is.
But it's still really addictive. My mother-in-law got hooked on it, and she's just about the most unlikely person to play video games in the entire word.
I got a bit hooked on it myself. My wife is mad at me, in fact, because I now have the two top scores in her high score table. 1010 points, not bad! But she'll beat me eventually. Although she may forbid me to play with it once she does. :D
We're hoping to get Sudoku for it soon, but no store seems to have it these days - they're all sold out.
By the way, if you like the DS I highly recommend the Wii, too. I recently set up a wifi network for ours (our old Linksys router failed after a few months, so I picked up a Belkin router and was surprised at how much easier it was to set up). Apart from the games, and the cool old games that you can download, what really impressed me was the Photo Channel 1.1. It was a free download, but it let me show pictures and video from our recent vacation - and automatically turned them into a slideshow that was just AMAZING, with music and effects.
