Cleaning

More and more brown spots have been showing up on our bathroom ceiling, particularly over the bathtub. For some reason we didn't do anything about them...for months. We assumed we'd have to strip and repaint the ceiling.

But just for the hell of it, I took a swipe at the ceiling with a tissue. And the spots came right off. Five minutes of work with a sanitizing wipe, and the whole ceiling looks positively beautiful.

Aha! No one bothered to put on a sealing coat before painting.

Before painting? I would think you would apply a sealant after painting, to seal the paint off from moisture?

I'm obviously no expert. :D

The sealing/primer is put on the greenboard sheetrock so it doesn't rot. But the stuff you saw is actually the waterbased latex chemicals leeching out of(separating) the paint.

We had that issue too before we bought the right paint for the bathroom.
