Politics

Okay. Per request, I will never make an unfiltered political post here again. I'll also go back and filter some of the more recent unfiltered political posts.

I'll post an announcement now and again about the existence of the political filter, however, if that's all right.

PS - what about humorous posts that relate to politics, like http://bobquasit.livejournal.com/701080.html and http://bobquasit.livejournal.com/700852.html ? Should I filter those as well?

PPS - Okay, I've filtered about ten recent posts. My apologies to the few who had commented on them, but who aren't on the politics filter; sometimes there are no good choices, I guess.

There are still some humorous political posts left. I can remove them if anyone wants me to; let me know. I'll filter any future posts of that sort. This means that for those not on that filter, I'll be posting much less often.

I tried to respond to your comment, but where I am not on the filter, I wasn't authorised to.

I want to explain myself a little more clearly and hopefully correct any perception you might have that I was being snarky. That genuinely wasn't my intent.

I have an interest in politics, but prefer to glean my information from independent women based media and also straight from source, rather than reading the opinions of other people on my friends list. This is not meant as a personal attack. I find I function better on an intellectual level if I can learn and interpret the facts myself before engaging in any debate or discussion.

Obviously it is your LJ and I think you should feel absolutely free to do with it what you wish to. I had no intention of offending you and I do apologise if that happened. I honestly really just wanted to check and see if I was on the politics filter and make sure I wasn't. No offence meant I promise :-D

Edited for typo.

Yeah, sure, put me on your politics filter. I love controversy. :)

EYEBROW RAISE at whatever mysterious entity wants(?) you to filter political posts.

It's okay. Not everybody has to share the same interests.

I've added you to the filter, oceanstate. There are a lot of posts that you can see now that you couldn't before. But I'm going to stop writing about politics here, and go somewhere else. I'm not sure just where, yet; maybe Blogger. I'll post about it when I start it up. This way, I'll be able to write about politics publicly without worrying about filtering or offending people.

I also need to come up with a blog name, I suppose. How about "Ranting Liberal Bastard"? Is that too negative?

Meh, more like too generic. There are an awful lot of Ranters and Bastards in the blogosphere (not to mention Liberals.) I'd refine the name to something that expresses something unique about you, whether it's an unconventional opinion that you have, or something about your particular perspective, based on your life experiences and identifications.

That's a great suggestion, but so far I can't think of anything. I was trying to come up with an Orwell reference, but failed miserably. So far, the only thing I've got is "The Sheep That Howls", and that's just painfully lame.

I'm sorry. I read this yesterday and did my normal reactionary thing when something upsets me...which is close it and come back in a calmer state of mind and objectively read again. Which I did. Sorry, I had the same reaction.

This is YOUR LJ. You have a right to post whatever you want, unfiltered if you so choose whenever you want. If someone doesn't want to read it, then it's up to them TO NOT READ IT!!! Telling you to not post in your LJ is the utmost equivalent of rude to me.

I do not read political posts by anyone. It's my own thing. I don't like discussing politics because people can be so obnoxious in their opinions. When it came to your posts, if I saw it was political I either skipped it or read it briefly, refraining from comment.

To hell with those who would take away your freedom to write and express yourself.

No, it's okay. nakedfaery has often been kind to me in the past. I don't want her feeling uncomfortable. This whole thing has forced me to look at things in a new light. That was probably long overdue.

I should start a new politics-only blog. After thinking long and hard about this, I'm not comfortable hiding most (or all) of my political posts behind a filter. I want to speak out against torture publicly and on the record. Not to mention other political issues.

So I won't be doing political posts here at all from now on. I need to work out a name for the new political blog, and decide what site to put it on. I'll announce that here, and that will be it. Most people on my flist will be just as glad not to read that stuff anyway! And I'm saying that from sure knowledge, not self-pity (well, not too much, I hope. :D)

Am/was I upset? Well, yes; I won't lie to you. I have a bad tendency that way. I'm easily bruised, emotionally, sort of like a banana. :( I've noticed that Sebastian is the same way, unfortunately; when his feelings are hurt, he feels like the world is ending.

I'll withdraw here a bit for a while, and then no doubt I'll work out a new way of dealing with things. I just need to get used to separating political posts from everything else. I'll be back!

I want on that filter!
