Askville politics: FOX News
Politics.
In response to a question on Askville about Obama ignoring FOX News because they're biased:
Sure, it's true. But it's also completely inevitable that Republicans are going to screech and swear to God that no, it's not true, FOX News is completely fair and balanced - they say so themselves, so it must be true! - and that it's the REST of the media that's biased. And who are we going to believe, our own eyes or the same people who lied to us about WMD in Iraq?
The vast majority of FOX News viewers do not occupy a reality-based universe. They believe what they're told to believe by FOX, Rush, and other paid mouthpieces for the wealthy and powerful. They're cattle mooing in support of the owner of the slaughterhouse. There doesn't seem to be any way to reach them, so all we can do is sit back and be glad that for the moment, they're not running things.
I knew someone would bring up Olberman or Maddow. The difference is that those are clearly labelled as opinion shows. CNN's news coverage can be shallow, trivial, and stupid (and often is), but it's not politically biased - except, of course, to the extent that it like all mainstream media is biased to support the status quo culture of money, power, and celebrity which allows them to exist. So in that sense, CNN supports the Republican Party.
There is no mainstream media outlet that actually supports the Left in the US, which is probably why there isn't really a left wing in the US. What is labelled "left" is generally more like center-right, and would be considered so in virtually any country in Europe. There are a few real outspoken leftists in the US, but they're generally vilified and universally considered to be beyond the pale by the media.
[Then Askville's resident right-wing village idiot, Rock, showed up to amuse us all.]
"On cable, more people watch FOX than all of the other news channels combined. Read it and weep liberals."
You mean, weep because the Democrats control Congress and the White House?
If popularity is all that matters to you, Rock, and the majority is always right, then shouldn't you have voted for Obama and the Dems?
And if so many people are watching FOX News, how do you explain why the Republicans have been getting pummelled lately?
"I suspose that you libs are going to tell me that the majority of people who watch FOX are stupid and only the minority that watch the others are smart. How arrogant you are."
I suppose that you right-wingers are going to tell me that the majority of voters who voted Democratic are stupid and only the minority that voted Republican are smart. How arrogant you are!
