LJ = High School

Okay, I think I've figured it out.

LiveJournal is high school.

Or maybe junior high, I'm still pondering the maturity level.

We've got the whole popularity thing: friends, mutual and not. Hell, they're even posted publicly in our profiles. You can measure someone's popularity even before you read a single word they've written.

We've got the cliques: the jocks, the popular kids, the geeks, they're all here.

We've got the "I've got a secret" game. More and more journals are private, friends-only these days. Apparently you have to reach some standard of coolness to even be allowed to READ some people's journals.

We've got fads. If I see one more of those "What (fill in the blank) are you?" polls or quizzes again I'll probably scream. Which is why I'm not cool and nobody reads my journal, of course.

We've got bullies; just go to any political community. 'Nuff said.

We've got gossip up the wazoo. Who's friending who; who's more popular; who's getting dropped; whose journal has a cooler design; etc. etc. etc.

We don't have teachers, as far as I can see, and there isn't much learning going on.

See - it really is just like high school!

Okay, time for me to

I don't think it's quite like high school... more like college actuality (especially the obsession in some cases with sex and drinking and clubbing in some of the communities).

To [livejournal.com profile] bobquasit: "Oh, totally. I could not agree more."

To all my other friends: "Oh, my, god! Did you see what [livejournal.com profile] bobquasit said about us on LiveJournal!? What. A. Bitch. Like, if he, you know, never came on LiveJournal again, I know I wouldn't shed a, you know, tear."

Heh. :-)

Eh, to me it's almost like graffiti. Or at least for me. I just throw out stuff
and see if anybody cares. More under control than Usenet or assorted forums. Nothing
terribly profound.

On the other hand, I'm probably missing most of the Live Journal experience.
