Saturday I took Sebastian to Coffee & Cream for breakfast. It went very well (he's usually very good when it's just him and me). At one point, though, the waitress said something like "What can I get for you and your son?" and then suddenly stopped and revised it to "I mean, you and your child?"

"My son, actually!" I said, automatically. It looks like people are still thinking I might be Sebastian's grandfather.

One of these days after I lose a lot of weight I'm going to shave off this greying beard. I suspect that people won't recognize me.

Later on Saturday I took Sebastian to the candy store. I was surprised at how well he behaved; he was interested and excited, but he acted just like a little grown-up.

"Stay with me, Dad." I can't really convey how mature he sounded. I was so proud of him.

This morning, Sebastian came over to our bed.

"Are you working today, Daddy?"

"Yes, baby boy, I have to."

"I want to whisper something to you."

"Okay."

[whispering] "I want you to pretend that you're sick and stay home with me."

He's been whispering in my ear a lot. It's an incredibly funny feeling.

Cordwainer Smith was amazing. He wrote about robots based on laminated mouse brains 40-50 years ago. Lo and behold, in the news today: "Brain Chip Made With Rat Neurons".

What next, I wonder? Space3, or underpeople, or stroon? I vote for stroon.
