Bush's comeback

David Broder recently did an Op-Ed for the Washington Post: Bush Regains His Footing. In it, he claimed that George W. Bush "may be poised for a political comeback", and that's he's been demonstrating "political smarts".

The feedback online was devastating. I counted over 180 responses, everyone one of them negative, before I gave up. There are sixteen PAGES of responses right now, and the number is increasing. So naturally I had to jump in:
STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT. All of you crazy hippie bloggers just SHUT UP RIGHT NOW. Do you not understand? Mr. Broder is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! George W. Bush is on the comeback trail! The war is turning around! We can see the light at the end of the tunnel! We are turning the corner! Victory is within our grasp! And it is all thanks to the man we all love and admire, George W. Bush - the GREATEST PRESIDENT EVER!

You ignorant little fools with your droll little comments are like filthy little monkeys, flinging your own waste at great men like Mr. Broder and President Bush. You should all be ASHAMED of yourselves! You hate the troops and America!

...Mmmm, this is delicious Kool-Aid, Mr. Broder. May I have the recipe?

Incidentally, I don't know if it shows but I had to be quite careful to avoid all the characters which are forbidden by the Post, particularly the dreaded apostrophe. That's why the phrasing may seem odd.

I'd guess that some of the Pundit Class like Bush on some level and don't want him to be an irrelevancy. Which, well, probably helps the Democrats actually. What perhaps the best thing would be for the Republicans would be Bush being "forced" to withdraw troops from Iraq well before the end of his term; either a disaster can be blamed on the Democrats or the public will pretty much forget about it. American troops still getting killed in Iraq when the 2008 elections are running pretty well gives the whole shooting match to the Democrats unless the Democratic presidential candidate is truly worthless, even more worthless than the Republican.
