The Boy Cracks Up
Jul. 11th, 2005 11:43 amLast night Sebastian asked me to go upstairs early and read six books to him (well, he said it was nine): four books in the Tim series by Edward Ardizzone, and two Mister Penny books by Marie Hall Ets.
Those are all books from the 30s and 40s, and they're all quite long. If you haven't read them, you should; they're all high on my list of all-time great books for children.
We started out of order with Mister Penny's Racehorse. At one point, Mister Penny is talking to Limpy, his old horse. I made a verbal typo, and said "Mister Limpy" instead of "Mister Penny". Sebastian and I gave each other a long look, and simultaneously burst out laughing. For the next ten minutes we kept saying "Mister Limpy" to each other and cracking up.
He's got my sense of humor. No doubt about it.
