I just posted this to both of my Mastodon accounts:

I'm leaving Mastodon. Two censoring instances in a row is two too many. If I find an instance that DOESN'T censor, I may come back. Feel free to recommend one if you know one!

For now I'll be posting on my old DreamWidth account. It's pretty empty, but at least there's freedom of speech there.

Here's a link to my DreamWidth account.

And here's a post I just made over there about all this.

DreamWidth is free. I've never been censored there. I plan to post future book recommendations there. It goes way back; it's a fork of the old LiveJournal code, and it's run by two former LiveJournal staffers. It has a lot more features than Mastodon, including text formatting and groups.

I hope Mastodon finds a way out of its censorship addiction. But until it does, there's no point in posting here.

Mastodon seemed to be the answer to oligarch control of social media sites. Decentralized, with no algorithms or ads.

But there's *always* a problem. And the problem with Mastodon is censorship. Unaccountable admins and mods suddenly deleting a bunch of my posts and sending me threatening notices—but since the posts have been deleted, there's no way for me to know what I'm being punished *for*.

Not that I accept their authority to punish me. It's free fucking speech, and they can go to hell.

It's happened twice now, at kolectiva.social and beige.party. They censor like bastards.

There are other instances, of course. But at this point with two instances in a row censoring me, I'm not inclined to commit to any new ones. There may not be anyone here on DreamWidth, but at least there are no officious tinpot Nazis trying to clamp their virtual hands over my digital mouth!

I contributed something of value. I posted 170 daily book recommendations. I'm damned well NOT going to do that for a bunch of censors.

So for now, I'll post here...in the silence.

This is the second time a Mastodon instance has suddenly censored a bunch of my posts.

My comment about the mas.to rules:

Interesting. But if the server rules say we're subject to the laws of the UK and Germany, does that mean we can't say "I support Palestine Action"? Or "Abolish Israel—no nation which commits or supports genocide has any right to exist."?
